Exchange Server 2010 allows administrator to configure a recipient/distribution group/dynamic distribution group for moderation, which means, all messages sent to that recipient/distribution group will be sent to the moderator(s) for approval.
We can use Exchange Management Console or Exchange Shell to configure a recipient for moderation.
How to use EMC to configure a recipient for moderation
- Open the Exchange Management Console.
- Click Recipient Configuration.
- In the result pane, right-click on distribution group, and click on Properties.
- Click on the Mail Flow Settings tab in the Properties window.
- Select Message Moderation and click Properties.
- Select the “Messages sent to this group have to be approved by a moderator” checkbox and click on Add to select the moderators.
- We can also specify senders that can bypass moderation process by selecting the “Specify senders who don’t require message approval” checkbox and clicking on Add to select the senders.
- We can select notifications options as below:-

- Notify all senders when their messages aren’t approved.
- Notify senders in your organization only when their messages aren’t approved.
- Don’t notify senders when their messages aren’t approved.
9. Click Ok to save the settings.
