Where to start a blog in 2024? WordPress vs. Blogger vs. Medium

WordPress vs. Blogger

A blogger definitely doesn’t have an easy life. On the road to his own place on the web he faces many difficult choices, among other things he has to decide which blogging platform to choose. If you are also facing such a situation, it is for you today’s my article in which I say where you can start a blog.

Why do you want to start blogging?

As always, I start from the beginning, so think about why you want to have a blog? The key when choosing the blog platform best suited to your needs is to define the goals that you set for yourself. You should think deeply about what a blog will be for you and what you intend to achieve with it. Do you want to blog only as a hobby, develop your interests and present your point of view to others? Or maybe running a blog is your business idea – would you like to earn money and successfully promote your own personal brand? Analyze your situation and think about which of these motivations is closest to you. Count how much money you can spend on your blog.

Remember at the same time of course, these two approaches I have presented – focus on developing passion and earning – can be successfully combined. Regardless of the conclusions you reach, your choice should be carefully thought out!

How much money do you have for your blog?

The next item is of course cash register. Unfortunately, blogging is not a cheap hobby, if you are wondering how much it costs to run a blog, I invite you to the entry to which I gave the link, but to the point. I am a supporter of saving money, so at the beginning I recommend free blogging solutions, because you can check whether blogging turns you on. Content in blogging is the most important thing and you must focus on this at the beginning of your path. If you started with advanced theme customization options you could be quickly discouraged, so by choosing free solutions you will focus on what is most important.

So where can I start a blog?

Blogger

This is a blogging platform supported by Google. It will be an ideal solution for you if you are a blog layman and you will only be exploring the art of blogging. One of Blogger’s most important advantages is that you won’t have to pay extra for hosting and domain ownership services. So it is a good choice for people who want to set up their own blog, while bearing minimal costs. You should also be interested in blogger, if you are just experimenting and you are not yet deeply convinced that your blogging adventure will be long-distance.

Blogger’s hosting alone does not cause major problems. So you do not have to worry about breaks in access to your blog, which sometimes occur when using paid external hosting. An additional advantage may be the simplicity and intuitiveness of the entire solution – to create your own place on the network, just create a Google account and voila, ready! Remember, however, that each stick has two ends. At Blogger, you have limited opportunities to customize your blog.

Advantages: Disadvantages:
is free limited selection of blog templates,
is connected to your Google account, minimal selection of integrated add-ons,
you get your own domain directly on Blogger, it is not possible to set up a store on this platform,
is integrated with AdSense, to make changes, you need to modify the master code which can be a hindrance for novices.
ease of use even for beginners.

WordPress – on your own server

It has gained worldwide recognition of bloggers who are eager to use it because it gives almost unlimited possibilities. You can use it to create your own blog, but this is only a fragment of what can be squeezed out of it Depending on your needs on WordPress you can create your website, discussion forum, educational platform or online store. By using this platform, you can expand and personalize its functionality to suit your needs, because you can easily find many free add-ons, plug-ins and templates on the web.

In addition, WordPress is a huge community of users and, if necessary, it is very easy to get support by visiting the discussion forums. An additional advantage is also that blogs placed on WordPress are usually better positioned in search engines,

Advantages: Disadvantages:
is free the need to invest in your own domain and hosting,
relatively easy to start your adventure with WordPress, you will face the challenge of independently creating and moderating your audience,
gives the user virtually unlimited possibilities, security issues
the blog can be personalized in a very significant way by choosing one of many templates or functional plugins, frequent fuckup plugins that can put up a page.
aesthetic and professional appearance,
gives the user the opportunity to set up an online store.

Medium

The Medium blogging platform is the child of Twitter co-founder Evan Williams. The medium has become a new place on the Internet, in the assumption intended for publication not too short and not too long texts. The main advantage of this platform is transparency and recognition through the recommendation of valuable content created by ordinary people, not people widely recognized in the world.

The medium stimulates the development of social journalism and places great importance on establishing interaction between users. To use this platform, just enter it and simply write something – nothing simpler! Texts that gain the approval of the community are further recommended by it, and sometimes also modified (this allows adding quotes and underlines in specific places of the text). A definite plus of this solution are deepening the level of discussion on the Internet and stimulating the engagement of recipients.

As a Creator on Medium, you have the opportunity to create a unique image of your publication by choosing your preferred color, layout and navigation bar. You also don’t have to worry about hosting and technical issues. If you already have your blog or website on another platform, you can easily move your content to Medium using a dedicated tool.

Do you want to earn from your publications? Nothing easier! The medium gives you the opportunity to monetize your actions in two ways. The first are Promoted stories , i.e. publishing content co-created with partners. This is an option for people who have already managed to gather a loyal audience around their publications. The second option is the Membership program , according to which, in exchange for a monthly fee, some publications will be available only to members paying for a subscription.

Advantages: Disadvantages:
transparency and simplicity of using the platform, still quite negligible popularity among Indian users,
options for personalizing the appearance of the blog, you can’t use your own domain.
no problems with hosting and solid technical support,
clear and transparent methods of making money on the blog,
a great place if you want to publish in English,
possibility of creating a newsletter without external tools such as Mailchimp.

And what do you think about it now, knowing all the pros and cons? Do you already know which platform will be best for you? I hope so. Finally, let me say that in my opinion the best place to start a blog is set medium.com + your own domain, which you can use later. You can easily buy a domain from Godaddy or hostgater , where it costs Rs 1400 in the first year (as of 05.2019). This combination gives you a neat-looking blog that has a dedicated web address. What more do you need to be happy at the beginning? 🙂medium com + your own domain, which you can use later. You can easily buy a domain from e.g.
