8 Ways How to speed up Google Chrome

Fast browser operation is important for all of us because it is the browser we use most of the time. Despite the fact that Google Chrome, because of this browser today is currently the fastest web browser, it can happen that it starts to work slowly or consume a large amount of RAM.

That’s why today I would like to show you 10 ways how to speed up Google Chrome. Try all of the described methods, especially if your browser has started to run slower than usual, and I hope you can restore your browser to its original state faster. I also described 10 ways to speed up Firefox before .

1 # Get rid of unnecessary additions

Step 1.  In the address bar, type: chrome://extensions/ and remove any unnecessary extensions you are not using.

Step 2.  Do exactly the same for add-ons. Type in the address bar:  chrome://plugins and disable all unnecessary add-ons.

Note : The chrome://plugins page was removed in Google Chrome, version 57.

2 # Change Google Chrome settings

Step 1. Launch your browser and go to the main settings, then click ‘ Show advanced settings ‘.

Step 2.  In the ” Privacy ” section, make sure that ” Preload pages for faster browsing and searching ” is checked .

3 # Edit selected experimental functions

Step 1. First go to the experimental functions, to do this, enter chrome://flags/ in the address bar  There are quite a lot of functions there. To find all the functions that I describe below quickly, use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + F , and then enter the name of the specific function.

Step 2. Turn on the ” Experimental canvas functions” function . Turning this function on will load images with transparent elements faster.

Step 3.  Search for ” Number of raster threads ” and change the default value to 4. This will allow pages to load a little faster due to the increased number of processed images on websites.

Step 4. Enable the ” stale-while-revalidate ” cache directive . This allows the browser to load the cache in the background.

Step 5. To save all changed settings, click the big blue ” Restart now” button .

4 # Install the Data Saver plugin  .

This is an additional plugin for Google Chrome from Google itself, which, as the name says, allows you to save data. The principle of the plugin’s operation is to compress the page before downloading it, and thus not only save thanks to this data transfer, but also the pages will load faster.

To install the Data Saver plugin , just click ” Add to Chrome ” and then confirm by clicking ” Add extension “.

5 # Clear browsing data

Browsing data is all files that are saved while browsing pages, including the history of browsed pages, history of downloaded files, cookies, as well as images and files stored in the cache and many others. As you know, with time more and more files of this type accumulate, so you should clean some of them from time to time.

To clear browsing data, simply enter chrome://settings/clearBrowserData in the address bar  and then select the items you want to delete and the time period from which they will be removed.

6 # Scan your computer

It’s also worth scanning your computer to find and remove various types of adware components that change your browser settings, display unwanted ads, and also slow down your browser’s overall performance. This also includes unwanted toolbars, which are most often installed with free software.

The best solution to remove adware as well as unwanted toolbars from our browser is to scan your computer using AdwCleaner . The program does not even require installation. I thoroughly described in an earlier post how to remove unwanted ads and pop-ups from the browser .

7 # Choose when to run plugin content

The main thing here is the automatic launch of various types of flash files, which not only turn on automatically with sound, but also slow down the loading of the page. These are mainly ads that we don’t want to watch or listen to at all.

To prevent this, go to your browser settings and then click ” Show advanced settings ” In the ” Privacy ” section, click ” Content settings “. You can also enter ” chrome://settings/content in the address bar In the content settings, go to the ” Plugins “ section and select ” Let me choose when to run plugin content “.

8 # Use the Chrome cleaning tool

This is an application from Google that will clean your browser of programs that can cause problems with Chrome. The application will also remove unwanted toolbars.

To use this tool, go to  google.com/chrome/cleanup-tool/ and then click ” Download now “. Once launched, the program search process will start immediately.

When finished, you will also be asked to reset the settings, which will, among other things, delete the start page, bookmarks, saved passwords, stories and cookies. Of course, if you want, you can skip this step.
