Ransomware
Ransomware is a new generation/hybrid malware that encrypts and locks documents or the entire computer system. To regain access, the victim must pay a ransom fee to the attacker, usually in the form of bitcoins.
Stages of Ransomware attack
- Ransomware infects your system when you download pirated content, when you click an injected link or an attachment.
- Once executed in the system, ransomware locks the computer screen and encrypts files.
- Attacker then demands a ransom fee to decrypt these files.
How does Ransomware infect your system?
- Installing pirated softwares.
- Visiting websites with malicious content.
- Plugging in infected USB drives.
- Clicking on malicious links (phishing emails) or attachments in emails. Clicking on files with ransomware embedded.
How to stay protected against Ransomware ?
- Avoid clicking links and attachments in emails from strangers.
- Do not download pirated or illegal software.
- If you suspect infection, disconnect from network immediately
