How to Configure Hub Transport with Direct Internet Connectivity in Exchange Server 2010

We can configure an internet-facing Hub Transport server to directly connect with internet for mail flow without Edge transport server on the front. Though this approach is not recommended as it may pose security threat for your Exchange organization, but you can configure Hub transport in Exchange 2010 organization for direct internet mail flow. Before configuring Hub Transport with direct internet mail flow, make sure to register MX records in DNS and configure network gateways to route SMTP traffic to and from the Hub Transport server. 

To configure the Hub Transport server to send direct internet e-mail, we will have to:- 

  1. Create a new Send Connector, and
  2. Allow Anonymous connections on default Receive connector

How to create a new Send Connector using EMC 

  1. Open the Exchange Management Console. 
  2. Expand Server Configuration and then click Hub Transport 
  3. In the Receive Connector tab, select the Default <Server Name> connector and open its Properties. 
  4. Click on thePermissionstab and select Anonymous Users box. 
  5. Click on Ok. 

 

How to allow Anonymous connections on default Receive connector 

 

  1. Open theExchange Management Console. 
  2. ExpandServer Configuration and click Hub Transport. 
  3. ClickReceive Connector tab in the work pane and open the Properties of Default <Server Name> connector. 
  4. Select the Permissions tab and select Anonymous Users box. 
  5. ClickOk.
