We have already written about YouTube Red , which is the premium version of the world’s most popular video service, in Trenovision. It seems that this is not the end when it comes to paid YouTube views. YouTube TV, i.e. streaming TV for mobile devices, computers and Google Chromecast!
The service was announced at an official press conference in Los Angeles. YouTube TV will be a package of over 40 TV channels, including: ABC, CBS, FOX and NBC . There were also more known channels from American cable networks, such as: ESPN, FX, The CW and Disney . All of them are to be available via online streaming.
But that’s not all, YouTube TV will be connected to the cloud service. This means that subscribers will be able to record an unlimited number of programs (even those running at the same time), without the need for an external disk. Viewing saved content will be possible from any device.
“There is no doubt that millennials love the content that television provides them, but we have noticed that no one wants to watch them in a traditional way anymore,” said YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki at a conference .
You can add up to 6 different accounts on one account, but only three can view content at one time. Each user receives personalized content recommendations as well as a separate space for saved movies or programs. The service is to be available both from mobile devices and from the level of applications dedicated to computers. Streaming directly to the TV will be possible thanks to the Google Chromecast adapter, whose price is around 50 $.
Although this is YouTube’s biggest step towards traditional television, commentators point out that the venture has its weaknesses. From the point of view of American consumers, a big downside may be the lack of agreement with Viacom and Turner Broadcasting. For this reason, YouTube TV offer will lack such programs as MTV, Comedy Central, CNN or TBS .
