How to protect yourself from ransomware attacks?

NAS infrastructure is increasingly falling victim to ransomware

Recent attempts at ransomware attacks on NAS devices have not been left unanswered. Taiwanese Asustor urges its clients to take security measures to protect important data and explains how to do it.

NAS infrastructure is increasingly falling victim to ransomware attacks. This is understandable – hackers know that data is valuable to users, so they try to force you to pay the ransom. However, you can protect yourself against their attacks. Asustor recommends the following actions to increase data security:

How to protect yourself from ransomware attacks?

– Make sure ADM is always up to date. Current software is less susceptible to hacker attacks.

– Use the Btrfs file saving system and snapshot backups to restore damaged data. Brtfs was developed, among others for greater data security.

– Create a new administrator account while deactivating the default. Use a strong password. The default accounts have standard passwords that are known to hackers. Using them means putting your security seriously at risk.

– Enable ADM Defender, which has a firewall and set the blacklist and whitelist. This will reduce traffic from unverified devices.

– Disable SSH and terminal services if you don’t need them. The fewer potential attack channels, the better.

– Avoid using factory-set ports. It’s best to change them all. This will hinder a potential attack.

– Back up data to different places.
