Instagram Stories is an Instagram feature that lets you post a photo or video for a limited time and view temporary posts from other users . If some of your Instagram friends’ stories are so interesting and funny for you that you feel like saving them so you can come back to them later, this guide is for you.
Read on to learn how to download Instagram Stories without informing your friends . However, remember not to use this tool to the detriment of others.
Downloading Instagram Stories on Android
To download the stories of your friends and other users on Android , you need an external application, e.g. Story Saver for Instagram . Follow the steps below.
- Download Story Saver for Instagram and install . The link is at the end of this article.
- After opening Story Saver for Instagram, log in to your Instagram account.
- If your friends have published Instagram Stories, you’ll see their profiles listed in the app. Click the profile of the friend whose story you want to download .
- If you want to view a photo or video in full resolution, click and hold its thumbnail . When the photo or video is displayed in full screen, you can swipe left or right to see other media in the same story.
- To save a photo or video from a friend’s story, tap their thumbnail and select “Save” .
- Click “Allow” when Story Saver for Instagram application asks for access to the Android gallery . This is necessary so that you can save media on your device.

Download Instagram Stories via Chrome
If for some reason you can’t download Instagram Stories via Android, use the Instagram browser version .
- First, open Google Chrome . If you don’t already have it installed, download and install it.
- The second thing you need is a Chrome browser extension called Chrome IG Story . You can download them from here .
- After installing the Chrome IG Story extension for the Chrome browser, open Instagram .
- By installing Chrome IG Story you can see the list of Instagram Stories users you follow at the top of the timeline , just like in the Instagram mobile app.
- Note : If on one day the extension suddenly stops working and the icons at the top of the timeline disappear, don’t panic. Other Chrome IG Story users recommend uninstalling and reinstalling the extension. You may also need to log out and log in to your Instagram account.
- Stories that you viewed in the mobile application are surrounded by a gray circle, while the others are surrounded by a multi-colored circle. To save any Instagram story, right-click its icon and select Download Story .
- All photos or videos from the selected story will be downloaded as a Zip file . If you are only interested in selected photos or videos from a given story, click the history icon.
- Right click on the selected photo or video and select Save image as … or Save video as … Done! Your friends’ Instagram Stories are saved and you can watch them when and how many times you want.
