iPhone 2020: Time-of-Flight sensor
Information about the placement of the Time-of-Flight sensor was given to the world by Digitimes . According to this source, Apple has asked its suppliers to provide VCSEL (Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting Laser) components for use in the ToF sensor. Leaks from suppliers say that it will be used in the iPhone , which will see the light of day in 2020. Earlier they informed about this possibility Bloomberg and analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. VCSELis a joint laser with surface emission with a vertical resonance cavity. It emits infrared light, which is why the human eye cannot see it. It is used in many consumer devices, as well as when playing with augmented reality.
Apple will probably use a comprehensive chip instead of the whole mechanism, so each pixel in the photo should perfectly reflect the actual colors.
iPhone 2020: three models, new size, OLED
As reported by MacRumors , citing Ming-Chi Kuo analyst , iPhone 2020 will be available in three versions: XS , XS Max, XR, which is the same as iPhone 2019 . Their sizes are respectively: 5.4 “, 6.1” and 6.7 “. All are to have OLED screens . Compared to current iPhone models , the XS Max will increase the size from 6.5 to 6.7″, which can be seen as a desire to compete with the Samsung S10 5G . In contrast, the iPhone XS will decrease from 5.8 to 5.4 “. Kuo gives no justification for this decision, but maybe there is a bigger difference between XS and XR?
On July 22, a leak appeared on Twitter by Ice Universe. According to him, Apple 2020 will receive ProMotion displays – it is a tuned LCD with a refresh rate of up to 120 HZ. Apparently the company from Cupertino conducted negotiations with Samsung and LG , whose goal is to create displays with the option of switching refresh rate from 60 Hz to 120 Hz. How did you come to that? Well, the iPhone login screen requires 60 Hz refresh.
iPhone 2020: 5G modem
Everyone will gradually switch to 5G , so it’s not surprising for Apple smartphones . However, Kuo predicts that only the XS and XS Max models will receive the 5G modem , and the XR will remain with LTE 4G . It is worth adding that Apple is working on its own 5G modem, which is to be ready in 2022. In addition, it works with Qualcomm , so it can use the solutions of this manufacturer.
July 29, 2019 Ming-Chi Kuo changed his mind and said that probably all three model will have 5G. The reason is simple – Apple wants to have its piece of cake on the 5G market . While in the case of smartphones with the Android system this standard will appear in the most expensive models, in simple terms – in comparison with them all Apple devices are expensive, so 5G is to be a compensation of expenditure. Kuo also said that the new team at Intel’s smartphone department is already working on the introduction of 5G to iPhone 2020 . On the other hand, the introduction of 5G modems will increase the cost of smartphones with an apple.

UPDATE 13.11.2019
Two new iPhone 2020 renders have hit the network. They are based on leaks from the Ming-Chi Kuo analyst and show what to expect from the design. As you know, Apple plans to return to older models in this area, which is why the new line will have more sharp edges, unlike the gentle curves of the iPhone 11 . On the back we see four rear camera lenses and their description, and on the front – the camera hidden in a small notch. The rear camera lenses are accompanied by an LED flash and an infrared emitter. The Time-of-Flight sensor used is not only to improve the quality of photographs taken, but also to provide better support for augmented reality (AR).

UPDATE 9.12.2019
According to the Korean site The Elec , the iPhone 12 will use special integrated circuits different from the iPhone 11 . Thanks to this, there will be more space under the casing, and hence – a large battery will go inside. Its hypothetical capacity was not given, but it agrees with the information about equipping the iPhone with a 5G modem. It draws more energy than LTE modems , so it must have more power to run as long as its predecessors.
UPDATE 28.12.2019
According to leaks, all iPhone models may receive a matrix stabilizer on May 12 . It works by moving the image in the opposite direction to shocks, which is to eliminate all smudges or blurred elements in the photo.

UPDATE 04.01.2020
There was a rumor about a thinner, more efficient OLED display. It was handed over to the Korean website The Elec . According to him, Apple is modernizing the display production line at the E6 factory, where displays for current iPhone 11 Pro are produced . After upgrading, it will be possible to produce sensors built into the displays, instead of placing them in separate layers so far. Thanks to this, the display will become thinner and more responsive, and just as importantly – cheaper to produce. It will also consume 15% less energy than that, which will affect the battery life.
