What is NavIC ?
NavIC (Navigation With Indian Constellation ) is derived from hindi word “नाविक” which means sailor and this is india’s own implementation of GPS (global positioning system). The Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System (IRNSS) is officially called NAVIC which is an acronym for Navigation With Indian Constellation. It has been designed by ISRO (INDIAN SPACE RESEARCH ORGANISATION) to provide accurate position in Indian and its neighbour country like Pakistan,china,bangladesh.
Unlike GPS bult by USA NAVIC is designed to operate in india and neighbour country and is operated by 7 geostationary satellite which focuses on india and their neighbour country.
its range is 1500KM-6000KM with very high accuracy.

Why NAVIC when we have GPS? History
It all started from kargil war. As we know GPS has been around for many years but it is controlled by US military. When India was fighting Kargil War against pakistan, India requested GPS private from USA for positioning but USA denied to provide GPS.
After that India learned the lesson and started to prepare their own GPS system so that INDIA can prepare their army, navy for future. Also situation like flood any disaster own NAVIC will help in these scenario.
Is it better than GPS? how much accurate?
It is not about which is better but GPS works around the globe and NAVIC is designed for india only.
GPS has accuracy of 50 meter under public mode which normal person use but NAVIC has accuracy of less than 10 meter and in some scenario accuracy could go as good as 11.8 INCHES.
The reason for this accuracy is that geo stationary orbits and 7 satellite of NAVIC keep close eye on INDIA only while GPS 22 satellite orbit the whole earth that is GPS lacks accuracy.
How can we use NAVIC?
NAVIC is ready to use now. But the problem is older devices do not support because GPS is enabled in hardware itself of processor.
Older devices comes built in GPS,GLOANASS support.
New devices smartphone support NAVIC with QUALCOMM snapdragon 720G, 865, 460, 632 family processor support NAVIC.

Currently new smartphone with snapdragon 865, 720G comes with NAVIC support.
