The German cyber security agency has detected a serious flaw in a popular player.
The exploit discovered by German researchers is referred to as “high risk” and designated CVE-2019-13615. It allows the attacker to directly run and change the code, as well as modify files and their contents without authorization.
At the moment, the creators of VLC are aware of the problem and are preparing a special fix. However, it is not known when it will be available to users.
VLC is currently one of the most frequently chosen multimedia players on computers. Interestingly, this is not the first time the program has been dealing with these types of problems. A similar case of detection of dangerous vulnerabilities occurred in June this year.
