How to delete WhatsApp files using Storage Usage
Follow these steps to free your phone of unwanted items:
- Open WhatsApp on your Android phone.
- Go to menu (⋮)
- Then Go to Settings .
- Go to Data and storage usage .
- Click Storage usage (and wait for the space used by WhatsApp files to be calculated)
- Click on each group or contact where you want to delete the files. If you have too many, you can use the search function. You will be shown how many files and messages exist in the selected group or conversation, will be grouped by type and you will find out how much each file type occupies.
- Tap Free Up Space at the bottom of the screen. At this point, WhatsApp will select all file types. Deselect what you don’t want to delete (especially text messages, which don’t take up much space) and then tap Delete Items .
- In the pop-up window that appears, click Clear Messages .
