The Free Google Course consists of eight classes that seek to present the potential of machine learning to journalists in newsrooms through research and training.
The goal is to help professionals reflect on how artificial intelligence can be used in a useful and responsible way to improve reporting and other journalistic productions.
The Free Google Course training offers from basic teachings on machine learning, through differentiation of artificial intelligence and machine learning, different methods on the subject and even on the algorithmic bias in machine learning.
Fabiana Zanni, responsible for the News Lab at Google USA, says that this type of knowledge can be a differential for newsrooms.
“The course is part of the Google News Initiative effort to, thinking about the future, strengthen journalism and help it innovate,” he says.
“Currently, given the access to large volumes of data in our daily lives, it is essential for journalists to understand how this type of resource can help them work with these databases and make sense and relevant information for the reader.”
