GBWhatsApp has been around for a long time. It calls itself a “modified version of WhatsApp offering the latest features”, which sets up a better user experience. But is GBWhatsApp dangerous?
For the simple fact of breaking some security rules without the authorization of the WhatsApp team, GBWhatsApp is not available on the Play Store. To download it, you need to use alternative unofficial links. Now better understand the advantages and disadvantages of choosing this path.

Extra features win users over
Why would anyone stop downloading an app via official channels for free to download a clone instead? Simple: to have access to unofficial tools. These modifications include canceling the sending of messages, the possibility of sending videos in larger size and even a password to access the app.
The most requested, however, is the reading confirmation (those two little blue streaks) without other people receiving your confirmations. All these modifications directly affect the official application code and, for this reason, are not authorized by the WhatsApp development team.
The big problem is that this sets a dangerous precedent: for the simple reason that the app is not on the Play Store, it does not have to comply with Google’s strict rules. That way, developers can access your personal information without your consent – in fact, you won’t even know it. Therefore, it is necessary to redouble the attention.

Why you shouldn’t use GBWhatsApp
In general, the advice of experts in information security and technology is that you do not install and use GBWhatsApp. Yes, there are benefits in relation to WhatsApp, this is undeniable, but the risks you submit to are not worth it. One of the loopholes is the possibility of accessing your personal data, without your permission and without you knowing that this has happened.
Among the permissions that GBWhatsApp asks for, for example, is access to your photos, your camera and the contact list. So far so good, in theory. The problem is that one of the permissions you grant when you install the app is “the possibility to add or remove accounts, create accounts, set passwords and read settings for Google services”. In other words, it’s as if the app has become an administrator for your phone, even if you don’t want to.
So, if a malicious person – or even the developers of the app – are interested in obtaining your data to pass it on to third parties, they can do it without problems, because you already authorized it when you started using it. It may never happen, and we hope it will, but if it does, there won’t be much you can do.
The same goes for all apps that are installed via APK, that is, from an external link to the Play Store you are at your own risk. When you download and install an app like this, it is as if you open the doors of your device for strangers to enter without being invited and, moreover, to access your personal information. When in doubt, avoid problems and use only the official version.
