With the WhatsApp update for Android, you can mute individual chat rooms. Previously, you could only mute WhatsApp groups. With the new option you can turn off notifications about chat with one person, group or status in WhatsApp. The whole process looks very much like the previous mute option.
Muting the chat means muting the sound for notifications or turning off notifications completely, even if the phone is not in silent mode while notifications will still be received. Of course, there is also the option to turn off notifications completely, thanks to the new mute options.
To complete the entire process, follow these steps:
1. Open the WhatsApp application and touch the contact or group for which you want to mute the conversation.
2. Click the 3 dots in the upper right corner and display the contact or group information.
3. Search for the option Mute Notifications and turn it on.
4. Choose how long you want to enable this option.
5. Done! Of course, in a similar way you can re-enable notifications, you don’t have to wait the entire period for which it was enabled.
It looks a bit different in the case of muting statuses. Below you will find a separate instruction:
1. Open the WhatsApp application and select the Status tab.
2. Hold the name of the contact you want to mute and select Mute from the pop-up window.
3. Done! You will no longer receive notifications about this user’s status change.
