Screen lock options on Android
No lock (not recommended)
It means that your smartphone or tablet remains unlocked. It offers no password protection, but it allows you to access the home screen quickly.
Slide (not recommended)
It means that to use the smartphone, you need to slide your finger across the screen. It also offers no protection, but allows you to access the home screen quickly.
Standard locks (recommended)
- Drawing pattern: draw a simple pattern with your finger to unlock.
- PIN: enter numbers to unlock. Long PINs tend to be more secure.
- Password: type letters or numbers. Strong password is the most secure lock option.
Other blocks (not available on all phones)
There is “automatic unlocking”, some cell phones offer the option of configuring your device to be automatically unlocked under certain conditions, for example, when you are at home. This feature is called Smart Lock on Android.
There is also the “unlocking by biometrics”, in cell phones with these features. It is possible to unlock the device with the fingerprint sensor or facial recognition.
How to set-up password on mobile (Android)
- Open the “Settings” application on Android;
- Touch “Security and location” or just “Security”;
- To choose a type of screen lock, touch “Screen lock”;
- If you have already set up a lock, you will need to use it to unlock;
- Touch the option you want to use now and follow the instructions on the screen.
You will need to register a PIN, design pattern or alphanumeric password. If you want to use Smart Lock or biometrics, stop at step two and choose one of the three alternative unlock options: fingerprint, facial unlock or smart lock.
