What is OSI Reference model ? – Definition from Trenovision

OSI Reference model

The model proposed by International Standards Organization (ISO) for network design is known as OSI (Open Systems Interconnection) Reference Model.

The main features of the OSI model are as follows:

  • It recommends  a Layered architecture.
    • The model provides a framework consisting of seven layers.
    • It does not specify the implementation details.
    • It did, however,  recommend the usage of certain protocols  at the different layers.
  • The model is as relevant as it was when proposed in 1982
    • However, the recommended protocols are not popular.
