OSI Reference model​

The model proposed by International Standards Organization (ISO) for network design is known as OSI (Open Systems Interconnection) Reference Model.​

 The main features of the OSI model are as follows:​

• It recommends  a Layered architecture.​
  • The model provides a framework consisting of seven layers.​
  • It does not specify the implementation details.​
  • It did, however,  recommend the usage of certain protocols  at the different layers.​​
• The model is as relevant as it was when proposed in 1982​
  • However, the recommended protocols are not popular.​
