Android Logo – Few know but the Android Mascot – that nice little green robot – is a creation of designer Irina Blok.
According to the New York Times , she worked at Google during 2007, the year that Google had advanced plans to debut its mobile platform and needed a symbol to identify it with consumers.

“Blok and his colleagues were instructed to create a look at the software – something that consumers could easily identify. The logo was supposed to involve a robot and so she studied science fiction toys and space films – anything that could help her create a character. In the end, she was inspired by pictograms of the universal man and a woman, who often appear on bathroom doors. She then drew a naked robot with a separate torso and a head with antennae, ”says the publication.
On his official website , Blok adds that the little green robot was part of the launch campaign in which it would function as the platform’s open source, allowing the developer community to establish the identity for the new product and generate enthusiasm among engineers.
“Initially, the logo was made for the developer community, but it quickly gained consumer attention with millions of people creating their own versions of the logo each day,” she said. “We decided it would be a collaborative logo that everyone in the world could personalize. That was very bold ”.
Blok currently works at Edmodo, a social network for students and teachers, and says the logo can be compared to raising a child: “You give that person life, and then they have a life of their own.“
