The Swiss parliament adopts amendments to copyright law by opposing the blocking of pirated websites. Switzerland can introduce its legislation because it does not fall under the jurisdiction of the European Union.

The policy of Geneva copyright law, therefore, does not meet the standards of other European countries, which has been criticized by many film companies. Under the amendments, users who download copyrighted content from illegal sources will not be punished. However, downloading content from torrents is still illegal. In addition, ISPs will not be required to block access to sites with pirated content. It has been reported that the provision on liability for downloading illegal content to platforms will change, but it is not yet known which of them will change.

As amended, the new regulations in Switzerland oblige local providers to remove illegal content from their servers, but they will not have to check that the downloaded content is protected by copyright.

We remind you that in other European countries they have a different approach to illegal content. For example, in Italy an active anti-piracy campaign is underway, as a result of which the level of piracy in this country fell by 8 percent. Recently, in France, site administrators were arrested because they administered about 20 pirate services through which sporting events were broadcast that were illegally obtained from French sports channels.
