What is Cryptojacking?

Cryptojacking is a secret use of infected system’s compute power to mine cryptocurrency. Attackers are increasingly using mining software in webpages, which loads a JavaScript without notifying the user. Mining software can indirectly access the operating system in a manner similar to malware exploiting the victim’s system. The presence of native mining software indicates a compromised device.

Cryptojacking is a threat to enterprise security and being vigilant of cyptojacking is necessary.

• Slowness of computer/ High CPU usage in browser.
• Antivirus alerts for malware.
• Unwanted software/ plugins that may contain a malware.

Precautions needs to be take for Cryptojacking

• Don’t click on links / attachment in suspicious emails
• Ensure that the antivirus agent is updated
• Remove unwanted software / plugins
• Ensure that the Bluecoat web filtering solution is installed and enabled
• Don’t click on advertisements/ popups on webpages
