This is not really new: Facebook, like Amazon, Apple, Google and Microsoft, was already listening and transcribing audios that circulate on its platform, the problem is that the owners of the recordings were not aware of this process – and this is a crime.

How Facebook is willing to pay users for recording audio

To formalize the procedure, Facebook is now launching the Pronunciations program in its Viewpoints application , which promotes market research. There, the platform will ask you to record the phrase “Hey Portal” followed by the first name of someone on your friends list.

The sets of recordings must contain the names of up to 10 friends who will necessarily be recorded twice each. The audios with the 10 names will be worth 200 points on Viewpoints, which will allow a withdrawal of US $ 5 (approximately R $ 22 in direct currency conversion) via PayPal when the user reaches one thousand points.

According to Zuckerberg’s social network, the recordings provided will not be linked to the profile of their respective authors. It also ensures that users’ activity on Viewpoints will not be shared on Facebook or other networks without the user’s prior authorization.

For now, the program is only available to US users over 18 and at least 75 Facebook friends.
