Cognos Connections

In Cognos accessing of data is done through cognos connections. It is a single interface.
Use Cognos Connection to

• Work with reports
• Create Shortcuts, URLs, and pages and to organize entries
• Create and run reports and cubes
• Schedule the reports
• Distribute scheduled reports
• View public reports
• Create report views
• Create and edit ad-hoc reports
• Perform online analysis of reports and cubes
• Access various studios, depending on the access permissions

Cognos connection can be customized based on the needs.Administrators use Cognos Connection to:

• Administer servers
• Optimize performance
• Setting access permissions
• For scheduling and distributing reports

Navigate Portal

• Hierarchical structures can be created
• Folders, shortcuts, report views, and URL links can be created to organize the reports in a meaningful way
• To locate an entry within a folder hierarchy search can be performed.
• Access can be provided to report authoring
• Access can be provided to scheduling tools
• Administering of reports is done by administrators.
• Folders can be created to organize shortcuts, report views, and URLs in a meaningful way
  • Public Folders – Shared and utilized by many users
  • My Folders – Contain personal reports. Not accessible by others

While running the report, run options are provided for:

• Viewing previous version of a report,
• Viewing history of a report

Distribute and Schedule Reports

Distributing Reports : Sharing them with others by

• Saving them in public folders
• Sending them by email
• Printing them

Run options allow to distribute the reports like:

• Select to view the report now
• Save the report
• Print the report
• Send it by email
• Add prompts

Reports can be run on a specific date and time by scheduling
Add run options which will allow the report to run just once or repeatedly

• Job allows to group multiple reports
• All reports of the job have same schedule
• Set the option at job or job step level;
• Job steps are individual reports

• Cognos Connection Pages provide customized content
• Personal pages can be created and shared with others
• Add tabs
• group different types of content into a single view by creating pages
• Edit the pages

How to Customize the Portal ?

• Set Preferences
  • Set portal home page, language and time settings
  • Set output format of reports
• View Session Information – View logon information, credentials, groups, roles
• Manage Portal Tabs – Tabs are shortcuts to pages, Public Folders and My Folders. Tabs can be added, removed or reordered
