Refresh rate means the rate at which display content or frame is refreshing per second. Any content you watch on your smartphone is dynamic and it changes frequently as the time progresses. so it is nothing but how many frames are moving per second on smartphone is what we call refresh rate.
60HZ:
By default any modern smartphone comes with 60HZ which means 60 frames are moving per second on your display.
90HZ:
it means frames in your display are moving at the rate of 90 frames per second which means your scrolling experience will be smoother but this consumes more power as processor is required to push more frames per second.
The first in the line was launched by one plus was one plus 7T.
120HZ:
it means frames in your display are moving at the rate of 120 frames per second which means your scrolling experience will be smoother but this consumes more power as processor is required to push more frames per second.
The first smartphone came with this rate was RAZOR phone.
Every manufacturer like samsung, xiomi, realme in india trying to give high refresh display in their midrange segment i.e. 13k and above.
What is the use of high refresh rate?
90hz,120hz is only for better scrolling experience and gaming. Due to high refresh rate gaming and scrolling experience becomes smoother. But game should also support high refresh rate.
For a normal user who is not a gamer, apart from scrolling it makes no sense to buy because high refresh rate consumes more cpu power which results in less battery life.
Also from video perspective it makes no sense because 90% videos are available are in 30 fps not even in 60 fps which is default refresh rate in any smartphone.
If no use then why it is in trends?
Every year these manufacturer needs something for marketing like quad camera in 2019 and high refresh rate in 2020.
It is just marketing stunt to attract customer in the name of 90HZ,120HZ.
