Google abandoned feature to donate money to websites

According to TechCrunch , Google considered developing a feature that would allow money to be donated to websites in support of news publishers, bloggers and musicians.

But an internal decision by Mountain View, however, dismissed the idea and chose not to proceed with the launch of the product – which would be part of the Google Contributor tool.

Based on images obtained by the American website, visitors could pay small amounts of (US $) 0.20 cents up to $ 5, to remove ads from partner sites.

A Google spokesman commented on the functionality:

“We recognize that there is no single business model that works for all publishers today, and we think it is essential to explore new technologies that can help publishers make more money. Financing options are a great example of a product in which we invest significantly and will continue to evolve to support publishers and their monetization strategies, ”he said.

With the coronavirus outbreak and companies’ natural drop in marketing budget , many companies (including digital ones) are struggling to get advertisers and keep their operations healthy.

If Google’s product had gained the daylight, it certainly would have helped to minimize the negative effects from the help and support of its visitors.
