According to statistics, over the past few years the amount of RAM in smartphones has increased significantly. Companies began to represent devices with 10 or even 12 GB of RAM, but does it make sense? Our colleagues from androidauthority conducted their own tests and came to some conclusions that later.

YouTube, WhatsApp, VLC and other light applications occupy 100 to 300 MB of memory. Various unpretentious games and Twitter spend between 300 and 400 MB of memory. Instagram, Google Maps, Google Photos spend from 400 to 700 MB due to the need to store in memory many data requiring a large amount of resources. In the case of Instagram, this is different media content. For the same reason, Twitter consumes 400 MB.
Google Chrome with 3 open tabs takes 900 MB, as well as undemanding 3D games such as Asphalt 9. PUBG Mobile sufficiently resource-consuming takes 1200 MB of memory, which is not much more than Chrome.
If you estimate, you can understand that 6 GB of RAM is enough to comfortably use a smartphone, given that the system also consumes about 2 GB of memory. In this case, you can keep in memory 1 a demanding game (for example, PUBG), a browser, various applications of social networks and so on. Very rarely, owners of devices with 6 GB of RAM encounter an unloading of the application from memory (it is very easy to notice the discharge: the application will restart after restarting, and in some cases may lose previously entered data).
8 GB of RAM is enough for 2 applications requiring a large amount of resources (for example, PUBG and Fortnite) and many others.
Do I need 10 GB?
No, you just won’t meet a situation where 8 GB of RAM is not enough for you, and even more so 12 GB, you can still not worry about it anymore.
