New Google search – Google has launched a new tool to help researchers find a plethora of academic articles on the new coronavirus.
The COVID-19 search tool is a semantic search interface that tracks a set of data (over 50,000 articles) from CORD-19

According to Google, traditional search engines are able to answer questions like “What are the symptoms of coronavirus?” or “Where can I take the test in my country?”.
But when it comes to more punctual questions and, often, written in natural language, the mechanisms fail to provide relevant results.
While the term-based model provides precision in the search results, the neural model tries to help understand the meaning and context of the query.
“The new Google tool helps researchers solve this problem by adopting semantic research based on an understanding of natural language (NLU) to answer these questions,” published The Next Web .
“NLU is a subset of Natural Language Processing (NLP) that focuses on a smaller context while trying to derive the meaning of the question and extract different insights.“
“Semantic search is powered by Google’s BERT language model. In addition, AI was trained in BioASQ, a model of biomedical semantic research to improve results ”.
The tool not only then returns documents related to the query, but highlights parts of documents that can provide relevant answers to the question.
It is also possible to ask additional questions to further restrict the results.
