YouTube Shorts – The fight between short video apps promises to become even more fierce soon. The success of TikTok has made apps like Instagram move to create similar features for users. Now, it seems like Google’s turn to fight for a portion of the public.
The company is launching an app called YouTube Shorts in India on an experimental basis. The idea is similar to what competitors like TikTok , Snapchat and Instagram already do: allow the user to record vertical videos of up to 15 seconds and share the content.

YouTube Shorts: What it is and How it works
There are not many secrets to explain what YouTube Shorts is. It has tools similar to those of its main competitors and allows users to record short videos and add special effects and soundtracks from a free library available. You can also control the speed of the video or use a timer to keep your hands free.
Initially, Google chose to launch the app only for Android and India. The idea is to take advantage of the gap that was left by TikTok , which was recently banned in the country. As India is considered a market very similar to the Brazilian, it is very likely that if the application works there, Brazil will be one of the next to receive the novelty.
A “+” sign will be the main control point on the screen. Users simply touch it or hold it down to record videos. Then, just access the settings menu to edit the content, adding effects and music before publishing. It will also be possible to import videos already saved in the gallery.

User experience does not bring great news
The first tests of YouTube Shorts started in June, with a restricted group of users, but only now have been disclosed by Google. The navigation system between the contents is similar to that existing in other services. That is, just slide your fingers vertically to find new content.
Published videos can be tagged with hashtags. At first, Google plans to display some of that content on YouTube as a way to expand the platform’s reach. However, like the app itself, this content can only be viewed on user accounts in India.
The company’s expectations regarding the possibilities of the new app are as positive as possible. Every month, about 2 billion users come to YouTube to view content on the most diverse topics. The proposal is that Shorts add to these users a new format, already established in other platforms, but still in the background in the company’s services.
There is no information on when the tests will go in India or when other countries will receive the Shorts. However, it is very likely that in the next twelve months we will have news about him in USA, at least in terms of tests, if all goes well by then.
