When is a smartphone considered waterproof?
The indicator for waterproofness in smartphones is also referred to as IP protection class. The abbreviation “IP” stands for “International Protection Mark”. The IP protection class consists of two code numbers. The first digit is relevant for protection against dust or other foreign particles. The highest degree of protection of the first digit is expressed by the number 6 and states that the device is completely dustproof and protected against contact. The second code gives information about how waterproof the device is. For waterproofness, there are a total of 9 degrees of protection. These determine whether an iPhone is only water-repellent or really waterproof. Also, make sure it is dry before opening the SIM tray. Place the iPhone where it can not be exposed to moisture. The heating as a drying place is not recommended . Also, avoid introducing foreign objects such as cotton swabs or handkerchiefs into the unit.
