According to the search engine, the search results on the Google Shopping tab now consist mainly of free product listings starting next week.

In an interview with The Verge, Google’s business president, Bill Ready, said the company has been working on implementing this free service through Google Shopping for “some time”.

However, the coronavirus outbreak and the potential good the company could do for people and merchants put pressure on him to accelerate the launch.

This action allows retailers to “connect better with consumers”, even those who do not advertise on the Google display network.

Google says that by making Google Shopping free, retailers that have essential goods in stock can be made more visible through Google Search.

The company explains:

“For retailers, this change means free exposure to millions of people who visit Google every day to meet their shopping needs. For buyers, it means more products from more stores, which can be discovered on the Google Shopping tab, ”says Ready.

“For advertisers, this means that paid campaigns can now engage with free listings. If you’re already a Merchant Center and Shopping Ads user, you don’t need to do anything to take advantage of free listings, and for new Merchant Center users, we’ll continue to work to streamline the integration process in the coming weeks and months ”.

Google is also working with PayPal to help “speed up the integration process”, allowing merchants to link their accounts as a secure payment solution.

Google Shopping will begin accepting free listings next week, April 27 – and the feature is expected to reach all localized versions of Shopping in the coming months.
